Bamboo is a fascinating resource and an exciting material to work with. Requiring absolutely no fertilizers or chemical treatments of any kind, bamboo comes out of the earth at 10” in diameter and grows 3 feet per day for 30 days until it reaches nearly 100 feet tall. That’s like watching a telephone pole sprout up on its own in a month! This rapid growth causes bamboo to consume massive amounts of carbon dioxide – the #1 greenhouse gas – and produce pure oxygen at a rate that exceeds any forest in the world. Some might think that because bamboo stalks are hollow they are somehow brittle. Nothing could be further from the truth. Substantially harder than Maple, Bamboo has a density that rivals Oak.
